New York State nonprofits will receive $4,160,205 in Nonprofit Homeland Security GrantsGovernor David A. Paterson announced that the federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded New York State more than $251 million through the fiscal year 2008 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP), including $144 million for the New York City Urban Area. New York State received $4,160,205 in 2008 Not-for-Profit Security Grant Program funding, which represents a 23.6 percent increase from the State’s 2007 award. Not-for-profit organizations in the State’s five federally designated urban areas (New York City, Buffalo, Albany-Schenectady-Troy, Rochester, and Syracuse) were eligible to apply for NSGP funding. New York State received 27.73 percent of the NSGP funding available nationwide and 60 organizations in the State will benefit from this funding. The New York State Office of Homeland Security is currently in the process of notifying both the successful and unsuccessful applicants by mail. Thanks to Governor Paterson, Dep. Secretary Michael Balboni and the entire Office of Homeland Security staff for their tremendous support for the Nonprofit Homeland Security Grant Program.

Prospects for a 2009 grant programA coalition led by United Jewish Communities, including JCRC and UJA-Federation, is again working to secure FY2009 Congressional approval for competitive grants for high-risk nonprofits.
